Okkkaaay, today’s Blog Blitz Bootcamp topic is one that’s my personal favorite : time management tools and techniques.
Because, productivity is a subject I’m mega-passionate about. Yes, more than Nutella and Starbucks. I know, who’d have thought?!
Anyhoo, moving on…
Let’s get right to it because wasting time chit-chatting will kinda defeat the purpose of the post, right?
Right. 😉
Time Management Tools and Techniques for Productive Blogging
What is the one thing that every blogger wants more of?
Time.
Time to execute those million and one ideas.
Time to write those posts that have been languishing in drafts.
Time to create a content presence that has everyone paying attention.
These 5 time management tools and techniques are the ONLY weapon you need in your arsenal to slash through distraction, lack of focus and turn up the heat on your blogging productivity.
1. An Editorial Calendar
This will help you know exactly what to write and why. Saves tons of time in the process.
2. An Idea Library
You know when the best idea hits you? When you don’t have a laptop with you. That is why it is so important to have some sort of idea capturing system in place. For me, it is a notebook and pen with me, the Notes application in my smartphone, Evernote. It may seem a lot but it works for me.
Every time an idea crops up, I know I have some place to jot it in and come back to later.
You can also use your brainstorming sessions to capture ideas and record them here.
3. A Blog Post Template
Sometimes when you can’t think of what to write about, it is a good idea to start with a template.
For instance, you can have a “How to {drop any idea}” template that can look like this
Title
Introduction or Reason
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
Result and Benefit
Call to Action
With a template all you need to then do is just fill in the blanks and then, add more meat to it as you let it sit awhile. Having a template gives you a structure of sorts to begin with and once the creative juice starts flowing, you’ll be on a roll.
4. A Calendar or a Planner
Yes, I know… Stop rolling your eyes.
Calendars do NOT kill creativity. There I said it.
I know how artistic and creative folks go on and on about spontaneity and the muse taking you whenever, wherever.
But here’s the thing… if you don’t make a date with your muse, she ain’t showing up ever.
So, get out that calendar or planner and mark the times and days when you’ll sit down to tete-a-tete with your muse. Mmmkay?
5. Batching and Re-Purposing
This technique is not only time-saving but also, sanity-saving. You’ll want to send me the most humongous jar of Nutella once you implement this. I kid you not.
Batching is when you set aside time and do one kind of task in a single sitting. For instance, I have 2 Saturdays a month reserved for knocking out the 4 posts I do for our site. The other 2 Saturdays are for the email and social media updates that go with it. You can create your own batching schedule.
Re-purposing is when you take a blog post and turn it into an infographic, an eBook, a podcast episode and/or a video post. I love repurposing because it helps you really squeeze the juice out of every single piece of content, it saves you time and it helps you reach a much wider audience in one fell swoop. Gotta love it, right? Here are a few handy ways to repurpose your content with shocking ease 😉
