With Google rolling out updates after updates, chances are you’re more than a little concerned about your site’s search engine rankings.

This month, we’re going to look at a few ways to boost our SEO naturally and organically.

Yes, no need to don any black hats or shady cloaks, just pure and simple ways to rank well on search engines.

Let’s begin with looking at a few free keyword research tools to help you identify the right keywords to target and rank for:

1. Google Adwords Keyword Tool

This is one of the easiest ways to look for keywords. You can type in words in your niche or industry or those that you think you should be ranking for and sort them according to relevance, number of global monthly searches or local monthly searches. You can then, download the results as .CSV files on to your system and then, play with them a bit more.

Best part, always free for as many keywords you’d like to search for.

 2. Wordtracker’s Free Keyword Tool

While this is a free tool by the folks at Wordtracker, you do need to sign up for an account. Once you do, you get access to all their free tools plus content on boosting search engine rankings as well. Once you do sign up, you can type in a keyword into the little box and scan the results. However, I always use the Adwords keyword tool first, then compare the results with this tool. Only disadvantage is that with a free account, you just get 19 searches.

 3. Wordstream Keyword Research Tool

The 3rd keyword research tool in my list today is from Wordstream and again, you get 10 free searches. The free version is, however, slightly limited since it does not show you competition, search volumes in Google and the relative frequency is kind of vague showing you a bar to indicate how often a term is searched for.

At the same time, it is a nifty tool to have to get more ideas for keywords to plug in to your Adwords tool when you’re stuck and don’t know what to search for.

While keywords are important for SEO juice, they shouldn’t take away from the focus of your content – helping and educating readers or consumers.

At the end of the day, if your content is great, you’ll get linked to, shared with and spread around, boosting your SEO and your credibility with your audience. Isn’t that lovely?
