For this month’s Biz Bite, I thought we’d look at something that many of us are worried about, “why is no one clicking on my posts?”
Whether it’s on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Linkedin, G+ or Instagram, it all comes down to whether or not you’ve got people clicking “like”, “retweet”, or commenting on your social media updates.
If your community isn’t engaging with your content, then you might as well be talking to yourself.
It doesn’t matter how many fans or followers you have, if they aren’t listening to you, you may as well turn off the station.
So, Prerna, you ask, how do I make them engage with me?
Good question. **smiling**
The short answer: Be engaged yourself.
The longer, biz-bite-style version:
Be interested in what your audience needs, wants and looks for.
Speak their language.
Address their pain points.
Ask them. Invite them. Tell them what you want them to do.
Let them know that YOU care.
Y’see, over the years, I’ve seen social media go from “social” to “sales” and while it may be a “business decision”, there’s a reason it hasn’t been renamed “Sales Media”.
Yes, you want your community to buy from you, but when they don’t even know that you care about what they’re going through, why would they trust you with their time or money.
So, here’s what I want you to do to increase engagement on social media:
1. Grab a piece of paper and write down the top 5 things your audience is struggling with right now.
2. Use the 7 super-simple, high-engagement social media update ideas in this post to cover those 5 things. You can do this via blog posts, photo updates, text updates or any other way you wish to.
3. Be real. Be you. Be truly, deeply, sincerely helpful.
4. At the end of the posts, tell people exactly what you want them to do next. Do you want them to “share” the post, ask them. Do you want them to share their views? Invite them into a discussion with you. Be specific. Uber-specific.
Ready? Go ahead, take action and turn your social media updates back to “social” mode.
